Who Is this guy, anyway?
I’m a director, playwright, arts journalist, and theater critic. I’m also a triplet from Massachusetts and a Jew from an interfaith household. I’m the able-bodied sibling of a profoundly disabled man. I’m a cis-gendered queer white man (he/they pronouns) who lives in Brooklyn.
As a theatermaker, I’m drawn to formally adventurous plays that unmask shame and cultivate joy. Recent productions include Ashkenazi Seance (The Brick, The Neighborhood/Congregation Beth Elohim [upcoming]), In My Name (Queer|Art/Abrons Arts Center); Falsettos, Uncommon Women and Others (Princeton Summer Theater); The Joshua Tree (Dixon Place); The Flick (Theatre Intime); 100000 (The Tank); and Untitled (Theatre for One). Check out my past shows.
As a critic and arts journalist, I cover stories outside the bounds of traditional theater-going, whether that’s documentary theater about trap music, innovative Zoom productions from college students, or the fragile economics of theatermaking amid a pandemic. I try to practice what David Román and Jill Dolan call “critical generosity.” I’ve written for American Theatre Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, Extended Play, and Exeunt NYC. Read my articles.
As the Artistic Director for Princeton Summer Theater, I produced two critically acclaimed seasons of theater including productions of Suzan-Lori Parks’ Topdog/Underdog and Paula Vogel’s The Baltimore Waltz. See what critics think about my work.
I’ve worked for the Public Theater, the Civilians, the Brooklyn Arts Exchange, and the PROTOTYPE Festival, among other places. And I was a proud member of the 2019-2021 SDC Observership Class. Explore my resume.
I believe scarcity is more a myth than a truth and that we only succeed together. I’d love to meet you, whoever you are, and see how we can support one another in this tricky industry called theater. Say hello!
